Iceland - Volcano
These images are from Fagradalsfjall, an active volcano in Iceland which began on 19 March 2021 in Geldingaladir. Although the volcano was not ‘erupting’ at the time of the visit in June 2021, it was highly active and had created extensive lava fields. The Nátthagi valley was very accessible, and the lava tubes and channels were working well to distribute the molten liquid from the crater to the very edges of the expanding lava field.
The emerging oozing then cooling lava presented many options to create some unique intimate images.
What cannot be experienced through these images, that will never be forgotten, was the sensory overload of the intense heat, the tingling sounds like breaking glass shards, and smell similar to fireworks.
